Ally and Cam reached out to us earlier this year in anticipation of their August wedding, and when we heard it would be in Canmore at Bear and Bison Inn, we were so excited!
Bear and Bison is a cute country inn tucked inside Canmore and at the foothills of the rocky mountains. This adorable inn, and the surrounding mountains, make for great photos and great company.
One challenge we faced for Ally & Cam’s day was a very rainy forecast. It can be easy to get nervous — and feel like your plans have been derailed — when the day calls for rain. But our advice will always be to take a deep breathe and as long as you’re open to making adjustments — we can make it work!
There are always umbrellas and ways to shoot in the rain — so long as you’re willing to make it work. And Ally & Cam certainly were! We had so much fun shooting with them in the rain, including at Canmore’s Engine Bridge — which we had all to ourselves.

To stay dry during their first look, Ally and Cam opted to do it inside the Bear & Bison, before heading out to Engine Bridge in Canmore for photos.

They also exchanged wedding rings during their first look. We love this very intimate ring exchange which has become more popular with our couples this year!

The real MVP of the day was Cam’s dad, who kindly (and efficiently) ran in and out of the photos to keep them dry between shot on the Engine Bridge! If you can adapt — wedding portraits will still work (and can be beautiful) in the rain. It’s all about being flexible and enjoying the process!

Another pro of a first look? Popping champagne with your wedding party before the ceremony!
