A Fall Elopement at Lake Minnewanka

There’s something so special about a November elopement in the mountains. It’s that quiet in-between season where fall lingers, winter begins to settle in, and the landscapes feel a little more still, a little more intimate.

Alaina and Liam’s day was exactly that.

They chose to say their vows along the shoreline of Lake Minnewanka, surrounded by their closest family. The sun was shining, the air was crisp, and the mountains felt calm and peaceful around them. It was one of those days where everything just aligns. No wind, no rush, just a beautiful moment shared with the people who matter most.

Their ceremony was simple and intentional. Standing by the water, with the mountains behind them and their family close, they exchanged vows in a way that felt completely true to who they are. These are always the moments we’re most drawn to. Nothing overdone, nothing forced. Just real connection.

After the ceremony, we spent time exploring the lake together for portraits. November light in the mountains is something else. It’s soft, golden, and low in the sky, creating the kind of glow that feels almost surreal. The shoreline was quiet, giving us space to move freely and capture a mix of wide, scenic moments and more intimate portraits.

As the sun set, we made our way into the town of Banff to finish the evening. There’s something so fun about ending an elopement with a walk through downtown. The lights, the energy, the contrast from the quiet mountains earlier in the day. We said our goodbyes as they headed off to join their family for an intimate dinner celebration to finish off the night.
